Why this works
A prairie dress goes costume-y when everything around it is vintage too. Pair it with a few modern basics and it just looks like a great dress.
A short cardigan keeps the waist visible, which is what makes a tiered skirt flattering. Knee boots cover the gap between hem and shoe, so the whole look reads long and easy instead of fussy.
Check the fit before you buy
The label says 14, but this is a 1970s 14. Vintage sizes usually run smaller than today’s, so skip the tag and use the numbers.
The bodice measures 40 inches at the bust and 32 at the waist, with no stretch. Plan on a bust of about 37–39 inches and a waist up to about 30 inches. The skirt is full, so your hips don’t matter here.
Wear it more than once
- For a wedding, swap the boots for a low block heel and skip the cardigan.
- For the office, add a fitted blazer and keep the boots.
- In summer, wear it with flat sandals and a straw bag.
